Summer grew up in a household that was bustling with artists of all kinds. On any given day, she would come home from school to find Billy Ray Lathum (The Dillards; The Kentucky Colonels), Taj Majal, and other musicians jamming with her parents. Summer started at a young age playing tambourine, drums and singing background vocals in her family's band. Her father, Ron Bacon, was an Emmy award winning Associate Director for ABC-TV. The family eventually built an 8-track home studio, Spoiled Brat Recording, which became so successful with clients such as Phil Hartman, the punk rock band Fear, and Chad Stuart (of Chad & Jeremy), that they expanded it into a state-of-the-art 24 track recording studio, Skyline Recording, which was located in Topanga Canyon, CA. Summer managed the studio, which catered to bands such as Slider-Glenn, Chicago, Three Dog Night, punk band The Cripples, and artists such as Whoopi Goldberg, Bob Dylan, Danny Elfman, Lee Ritenour, Kenny Passarelli, David Foster, Burgess Meredith, Miles Davis, Andy Fraser (Free), Graham Bonnet, After the Fire, Vinx (with Sting), Rickie Lee Jones, Paul Sabu, Alvino Ray, Shirley Maclaine and Ann-Margret. Skyline was awarded a gold album for Chicago 16, and was featured for its extraordinary architecture in the Los Angeles Times' "Home" magazine.
Summer went on to graduate from U.C.L.A. with a B.A. in English Literature, and landed her first job as an Assistant for the International Broadcast Center for ABC-TV during the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. After the Olympics ended, she was then hired as a Promotions Coordinator for Goodson-Todman where she worked on the game show Super Password, and assisted with Trivia Trap and Family Feud.
In 1986 she went to work for a staff leasing company (California Staff Management, aka Your Staff, Inc., which was later sold to Kelly Services, Inc.) where she was quickly promoted from Receptionist to Assistant Bookkeeper, to Director of Employee Benefits, and eventually became Director of Communications. From 1990-1996, Summer owned and operated a graphic design business, with an emphasis on corporate image and marketing. Through the years, and life's changes, she always maintained her passion for the arts and artists of all kinds. She has jumped at any opportunity to promote the people she believes in, and now, what has always been a labor of love, has also evolved into a new career.
